KAMLOOPS — The host society for the 2026 55+ BC Games in Kamloops is calling for hundreds of residents to help carry out the week-long event as volunteer registration opens.

According to a news release distributed Tuesday (Feb. 24), volunteers are needed for administration, event-day venue support, hospitality, leadership and logistics.

“Whether you can give us four hours or two weeks, there is a role for you. This is your chance to be part of something special and showcase our community’s world-class hospitality to the rest of the province,” said Ron McColl, the president of the Kamloops 2026 55+ BC Games. “Kamloops has hosted these games before and we know what it takes. Our volunteers are the heart of that experience. We are excited to build another team that will make this city proud.”

Taking place from Sept. 8 to 12, 2026, the 55+ BC Games features 27 sports for participants aged 55 and over from across the province.

This year will be the third time Kamloops has hosted the provincial 55+ Games, having done so in 1996 and 2013. Kamloops also hosted the 55+ Canada Games in 2022.

Speaking to CFJC Today, Tourism Kamloops’ Chloe Pasemko, director of promotions for the 2026 55+ BC Games, says the call for volunteers isn’t limited to Kamloops.

“If there are some family members who are traveling with a participant and they’re coming a couple of days early and they want to sign up to volunteer in the days leading up to the games, that would be more than welcome. It’s open to anyone who would be willing to travel to town,” Pasemko says.

Tourism Kamloops says the 2026 55+ BC Games will welcome more than 2,500 visitors to the city. The week-long event is expected to generate an estimated $3 million in economic impact for the Kamloops community.

Pasemko adds Tourism Kamloops and the host society are confident residents in the city will be able to fill the roles needed to ensure the events goes off without a hitch.

“Kamloops notoriously shows up for [events] like this,” she says. “We’re obviously a largely sport-driven community. In the past, we’ve seen the volunteer community show up for us. No matter what someone is interested in… there’s something for everyone.”
