MERRITT, B.C. — A heads up for drivers traveling between B.C.’s southern interior and the coast Monday (Feb. 23).

Environment Canada has issued a snowfall warning for the Coquihalla Highway between Hope and Merritt, which is expected to be in effect until Monday afternoon.

Around 15 to 20 centimetres of snowfall is expected for the stretch of Highway 5. It’s due to a convective system that will bring periods of snow to the area throughout the day.

“Roads and walkways will likely be difficult to navigate due to accumulating snow,” Environment Canada states. “Visibility will likely be reduced at times. Weather in the mountains can change suddenly resulting in hazardous driving conditions.”
