KELOWNA — The Kamloops Blazers came up short once again against the Kelowna Rockets, as they dropped a 4-2 decision Saturday (Feb. 21) night at Prospera Place.

Nathan Behm and Jordan Keller had the goals for the Blazers but it was Tij Iginla who once again stole the show with a pair of goals. The son of former Blazers legend, Jarome, Tij also scored two goals in Friday’s 3-2 overtime win – his fourth two-goal game in a row.

The Rockets led 1-0 after the first period on a goal from Ty Halaburda, but the Blazers pulled even through Behm at 11:46 of the second period. Behm’s third of the weekend came after he tapped the puck home following a give and go with JP Hurlbert, the CHL’s leading scorer.

Iginla took over after that as he scored a pair in 1:06 to give the Rockets a 3-1 lead heading into the second intermission.

While Jordan Keller pulled a goal back at 6:48 of the third period, the Rockets were able to hold on to that lead in the final frame. Vojtech Cihar then iced the game with a empty netter scored on the power play after Harrison Brunicke was penalized for tripping.

Blazers netminder Logan Edmonstone stopped 26 of 29 shots in a losing effort. Kelowna’s Josh Banini stopped 24 of 26 to pick up the win.

The Blazers (25-20-7-5) remain fifth in the Western Conference with 62 points from 57 games, while Kelowna (31-18-5-2) sits fourth with 69 points from 56 games. The Blazers are three points ahead of fifth place Spokane (29-26-1-0), who have 59 points from 56 games.

Kamloops has lost some ground to Prince George (34-20-2-0) and Kelowna in the race for a first round home playoff series as they picked up just two of a possible 10 points over the past two weekends.

The Blazers are on the road this Friday (Feb. 27) for a game against the WHL-leading Everett Silvertips (46-7-2-1). Their next home game is on Saturday against the Vancouver Giants (21-32-1-2).
