Twelfth-annual RIH Foundation Radiothon to be held on March 5

KAMLOOPS — Mark your calendars Kamloops as the 12th edition of the Royal Inland Hospital (RIH) Foundation Radiothon will take place on Thursday, March 5.

Just like last year, the event will be held inside the atrium of the Phil and Jennie Gaglardi Tower at Royal Inland Hospital. It will also be broadcast live on B-100 from 6:00 a.m. until 6:00 p.m.

RIH Foundation CEO Heidi Coleman says she’s hoping people will be generous like they have in years past, even though its a difficult time for some financially.

“We know that there has been a budget freeze from the Ministry of Health so that is putting more stress on us, but we love it,” Coleman said on CFJC Midday. “We only love it because we have such great community involvements and incredible donors.”

Coleman said this year’s Radiothon is being supported by a matching gift of up to $200,000 from a local anonymous donor. It’ll also have a special focus on women’s health from childbirth through to maturity.

“[It] reflects the evolving needs of women across our community and region,” a statement from the RIH Foundation said. “Women’s health is foundational to family well-being and intersects with care delivered throughout the hospital, including cancer care, cardiology, orthopedics, neurosciences, mental health, and more.”

“While the matching gift highlights women’s health, Radiothon will continue to support priority healthcare needs, strengthening services, programs, equipment, and overall care that benefit patients and families throughout our region.”

Last year’s Radiothon raised a record $650,000 for the RIH Foundation, in part because of a matching $200,000 donation from Jim Pattison, the Chairman and CEO of the Jim Pattison Group, the parent company of CFJC Today.

“We are focused on our tertiary care hospital in Kamloops but we’re also helping Lillooet and Ashcroft and Williams Lake and with other foundations that come in,” Coleman added. “We’re thinking about the whole community and we get support from all those areas as well.”

Donations to Radiothon can be made by calling 250-851-8821 on March 5 or online here.
