COLLINS: How far out of the box should we think?
I’VE BEEN FOLLOWING WITH INTEREST the on-again, off-again discussions at Chase council over the use of golf carts on community streets. Although I don’t think much of the idea, I like the determination of those who put ideas out for discussion and aren’t afraid to have them picked apart or vetoed.
Many of our biggest discoveries have been born from an off-the-cuff comment that led to expanded discussion and new treatment options for health care or in the creation of new strategic plans that will help bind the world together instead of tearing it apart. I doubt the Chase discussion will reach those heights, but you never know.
The community’s idea of turning seniors loose on streets in competition with cars is a disaster waiting to happen. To suggest seniors with disabilities are fit to drive a golf cart but not a car defies logic.
On the opposite side, who knows where a little discussion might lead.
