SUN PEAKS, B.C. – Tuesday (Feb. 17) will mark eight years since Ryan Shtuka went missing in the community of Sun Peaks. Every year since his disappearance, the Shtuka family and community members from Kamloops and Sun Peaks have gathered at the top of the Sunburst Express lift for the annual Run For Ryan.

Ryan Shtuka was last seen leaving a house party on Burfield Drive in the early morning hours of Feb. 17, 2018. Since that day, extensive searches have taken place but they’ve all turned up unsuccessful.

The Shtuka family is thankful to the community that continues to support them.

“For us as a family to still be standing here and coming out to Sun Peaks every year, it’s because of the community of Sun Peaks and the community of Kamloops that continues to surround us and continues to support us on the days when I think that we’re not strong enough to stand,” Ryan’s mother Heather Shtuka said.

“We have this huge community that is behind us and that supports us every step of the way. So it means a lot.”

Heather also said events like the Run for Ryan help keep her son’s story at the forefront.

“When your child goes missing or you have a missing loved one, there are a lot of things that you can’t control,” she said. “I can’t control the outcome. I can’t control if or when the answers will come. But one of the things I can control is continue to spread awareness and make sure Ryan’s stories are told to make sure that he’s more than just that one night that he went missing.”

Heather Shtuka will be holding a book signing at the Hillside Drive Indigo in Kamloops from 11:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. on Sunday

Anybody with information about Ryan’s disappearance is urged to contact Kamloops RCMP at 250-828-3000.
