James Van Der Beek, best known for playing Dawson Leery on Dawson’s Creek, died Wednesday at age 48. The actor was diagnosed with colorectal cancer in 2023 and made his diagnosis public in 2024. His family announced his passing on Instagram, stating he “met his final days with courage, faith, and grace.” Van Der Beek starred in the popular WB series for six seasons alongside Katie Holmes, Joshua Jackson, and Michelle Williams. He also appeared in Varsity Blues, Jay & Silent Bob Strike Back, and recent shows including Pose and Dancing With the Stars. The Dawson’s Creek cast reunited in September for a benefit to raise money for Van Der Beek, though he was too sick to attend. He is survived by wife Kimberly Brook and six children.
