EVERETT, WASH. — The Kamloops Blazers gave up five unanswered goals in a 6-3 defeat to the WHL-leading Everett Silvertips Friday (Feb. 6) night in Washington state.

The Blazers were up 3-1 in the second period, but they were unable to prevent the Silvertips from reaching the 40 win mark this season. Everett (40-6-2-1) has 83 points from 49 games, while Kamloops (24-17-6-4) is fifth in the Western Conference with 58 points from 51 games.

As they’ve done so often this season, the Blazers led early as JP Hurlbert and Nathan Behm scored just 20 seconds apart inside the game’s opening five minutes. Those goals had the visitors up 2-0 at the Angel of the Winds Arena.

While Henri Ament pulled a goal back for Everett at 10:59 of the first, Tommy Lafreniere joined the 30 goal club when restored the Blazers’ two-goal lead with a power play marker at 6:19 of the second period.

From there it was all Everett as Carter Bear finished with a hat trick, while Lukas Kaplan and Tarin Smith rounded out the scoring. Smith and Bear’s third goal – at 18:07 and 18:56 of the third period – were scored into an empty net.

Blazers netminder Ivans Kufterins stopped 40 of 44 shots he faced, while Anders Miller turned aside 24 of 27.

The Blazers continue their stretch of five road games in a row in Langley against the Vancouver Giants this evening. Puck drop is scheduled for 7:00 p.m.
