Winter Olympics To Feature Mariah Carey, Armani Tribute, Amid Political Tensions
The 2026 Winter Olympics opening ceremony tonight will feature Mariah Carey singing in Italian alongside Andrea Bocelli, along with Chris Stapleton and Karol G. The Milan Cortina Games will also celebrate fashion with a tribute to Giorgio Armani, who died at 91 last September. Geopolitical tensions may overshadow the festivities, as ICE agents have been deployed to protect Vice President JD Vance and Secretary Of State Marco Rubio’s attendance, sparking local outrage. Milan Mayor Giuseppe Sala declared they are “not welcome.” Russia remains banned since invading Ukraine, with 13 athletes competing as “Individual Neutral Athletes” without national identity. The ceremony spans multiple Alpine venues, broadcasting to over 2 billion viewers globally. The U.S. is fielding its largest Winter Olympics team ever with 232 athletes including Lindsey Vonn and Chloe Kim.
