Third annual Kamloops Black Film Festival begins Sunday with ’40 Acres’
KAMLOOPS — The third annual Kamloops Black Film Festival kicks off this Sunday (Feb. 8), running for three straight weeks, with a feature movie being shown at the Paramount Theatre on each Sunday.
The festival will feature three films, starting with ’40 Acres’ this weekend, followed by ‘Judas and the Black Messiah’ and concluding with the Academy Award-nominated ‘Sinners’.
“We can’t really know enough of each other, and films – especially film festivals – build bridges between cultures,” said Daniel Akinsola, founding member of the festival. “When people come together, you have different people together in the space, sitting in the dark, watching this big screen, seeing themselves on screen through the light of others – it brings that sense of community. It could also bring healing because when people go into the space with other people, laugh together, clap together and all that, it makes you feel better when you get home.”
