A24 secured rights to The Texas Chainsaw Massacre franchise after a months-long bidding war, with a TV series as the first project. JT Mollner (The Long Walk) will helm the series, with executive producers including Glen Powell. The auction drew interest from several major creators including Oz Perkins, Jordan Peele, and Taylor Sheridan. A separate movie is in early development. Mollner called the 1974 original “a perfect film” and sees the series as “a fresh way in” to honor existing folklore. The franchise has generated over $252 million across nine films since the original’s $140,000 budget yielded $31 million. Powell praised it as “one of my favorite films.”
