Kamloops saw sixth driest January since 1891

KAMLOOPS — January was Kamloops’ sixth driest month on record dating back to 1891, and the month was a lot warmer than normal according to Environment Canada.

The average temperature in January in Kamloops is minus 2.7 C. January 2026 had a three-degree increase.

“The main factor that drove these dry and warm conditions was we had this ridge of high pressure. Really, it’s that off the coast of California. It started to push northwards. It anchored itself for a couple of weeks in British Columbia. What it did was it ushered in that warmer air, but it also prevented any weather systems and Pacific weather systems from really reaching the southwest interior,” said Ken Dosanjh, a Meteorologist at Environment Canada.
