KAMLOOPS — For the second time in as many weeks, the Kamloops Blazers gave up a multi-goal lead at Sandman Centre and lost in overtime to the Prince George Cougars.

The Blazers led 2-0 after the first period and 3-2 late in the third, but ended up dropping a 4-3 decision Saturday (Jan. 31) night at the Sandman Centre. They picked up three of a possible four points this weekend.

Nathan Behm, Tommy Lafreniere and JP Hurlbert had the goals for the Blazers (23-15-6-4), who drop to fifth in the Western Conference with 56 points from 48 games. Prince George (29-17-2-0) is third with 60 points from 48 games.

Behm and Lafreniere scored first period power play goals as the Blazers looked to build of Friday’s night win against the BC Division-leading Penticton Vees (30-10-4-3). Hurlbert chipped in with primary assists on both those goals to finish with a three-point.

Goals from Terik Parascak at 8:34 of the second and Carson Carels – who finished with a four-point night – at 1:30 of the third brought the Cougars back even at 2-2. Hurlbert then restored the Blazers’ lead with his 32nd goal of the season with less than four minutes to play.

But Carels, who like Hurlbert is projected as a first round pick in this summer’s NHL Draft, scored at 18:02 to tie the game a second time after the Cougars pulled their goaltender. Kooper Gizowki then finished things off 74 seconds into overtime to give Prince George the 4-3 win.

Blazers netminder Logan Edmonstone stopped 27 of 31 shots in a losing effort. His Cougars counterpart Joshua Ravensbergen stopped 26 of 29.

The Blazers now turn their sights to a five game road trip that begins Tuesday (Feb. 3) in Victoria. Their next home game is scheduled for Valentines Day (Sat, Feb. 14) against the Cougars.
