Chia Pet Brand Acquired For Film And TV Development

Writer-producer Adam Jay Epstein (Not Another Teen Movie) and The Ides Of March producers Ari Daniel Pinchot and Jonathan Rubenstein have acquired the media rights to the Chia Pet brand. The trio plans to develop an animated feature film or series based on the iconic terracotta figures that grow chia sprouts resembling hair or fur. Chia Pets debuted in 1977 and became a pop culture sensation in the 1980s through campy TV commercials and their memorable theme song, selling over 30 million units. “Chia Pets have been featured on our shelves since childhood and we’re thrilled to help grow the brand to new heights,” Epstein stated.
