‘Mercy’ takes top spot at the box office
Chris Pratt’s science fiction film Mercy earned $11.2 million during its opening weekend in North America, dethroning James Cameron’s Avatar: Fire & Ash after five weeks at number one. The performance proved solid despite severe winter weather affecting much of the U.S. The futuristic thriller features Pratt as a detective facing trial for his wife’s alleged murder, with an AI judge portrayed by Rebecca Ferguson deciding his destiny. Avatar 3 dropped to second position with $7 million after dominating January’s box office and earning $1.378 billion worldwide through six weekends. Zootopia 2 maintained third place with $5.7 million in its ninth weekend, accumulating $1.744 billion since its Thanksgiving release. The Housemaid held fourth position with $4.2 million, while 28 Years Later: The Bone Temple fell to fifth with $3.6 million. (Story URL)
