KAMLOOPS — It was a winning Saturday (Jan. 24) for the Thompson Rivers University WolfPack volleyball teams as they hosted the Fraser Valley Cascades in the second half of a weekend doubleheader.

The WolfPack men made it two wins on the weekend as they beat the Cascades 3-1 (22-25, 25-19, 25-16, 25-20) at the TCC.

Fifth-year outside hitter Rylan Ibbetson led the WolfPack with 16 kills and 19 points. He now has 708 kills to him named, as his efforts Saturday moved him into fifth place past Robin Schoebel (696) and Tim Dobbert (701) in the WolfPack record books.

“He just does everything right,” head coach Pat Hennelly said. “He’s one of those guys that you don’t notice until you look at the stat sheet at the end of the night and you realize he contributes from the service line, defensively and he’s just been stacking up kills his whole career.”

Parker Bailey added 12 kills for the WolfPack while setter Walker Sodaro tallied 43 assists in just four sets, as TRU is in a three-way tie for eighth in the conference.

“We played well in Langley last week for six and a half sets so it’s been great. I’ll add our game against Laval over the winter break as well, we played well against them,” Hennelly added. “We are ready to roll, we are healthy – knock on wood – and looking forward to the challenge over the next four games.”

The TRU women also rebounded after a loss Friday to beat the Cascades 3-1 (20-25, 25-20, 25-20, 25-21) at the TCC. Just like Friday, the WolfPack began slow but this time they were able to come away with the win over their B.C.-based rival.

Rida Erlalelitepe (15), Keira Gent (13) and Hail Ward (10) all hit double-digits in kills for the WolfPack. Maria Dancheva added three solo and six block assists to go with five kills of her own.

Ranked fourth in Canada, the WolfPack are 12-4 and they remain in third place in Canada West with four games left to play in the regular season.

The WolfPack will close out their home schedule next weekend when they will take on the Alberta Golden Bears at the TCC on Jan. 30 and 31.
