WolfPack basketball teams lose to Vikes in Victoria

VICTORIA — The Thompson Rivers University WolfPack basketball teams succumbed to defeat on Vancouver Island Saturday (Jan. 24), as they faced off against the Victoria Vikes.

The WolfPack men trailed by single digits for much of the night but they eventually fell off and lost 88-63 to the top-ranked team in the country.

Steve Stinson led the way for TRU as he finished the night with 16 points and five assists. Dami Farinloye went 7-13 from the floor en route to 15 points and a team-high nine rebounds.

The WolfPack are 10-8 and they sit fourth in the Canada West Pacific Division.

The WolfPack women didn’t have as much luck as they were easily beaten 75-33 to drop to 6-12.

Hailey Merrigan shot 5-11 from the floor and finished with 12 points and seven boards, plus a pair of steals. TRU forward Maddy Hackman was 2-3 from long-range as she added six points.

TRU is sixth in the Pacific Division, one spot back of a playoff berth as they trail the 8-9 Fraser Valley Cascades.

The WolfPack basketball teams are on a bye next weekend before they close out the 2025-26 Canada West season regular season with a pair of games in Prince George against the UNBC Timberwolves on Feb. 6 and 7.
