Ed Sheeran recently performed his billion-stream hits at the packed Royal Dublin Society for Spotify’s new 24-minute concert film, Billions Club Live with Ed Sheeran. The 34-year-old singer-songwriter called Dublin his “spiritual home” where he “discovered that I wanted to be a songwriter.” Sheeran opened with “Shape of You,” his 2017 Billboard Hot 100 No. 1 hit that first reached one billion streams. He also performed solo acoustic versions of “Thinking Out Loud,” “Galway Girl,” “Perfect,” “Azizam,” and “Parting Glass” using his signature loop pedal. Sheeran learned guitar from his uncle at age 11 or 12 during family visits to Ireland. “It really feels like coming home here,” Sheeran said of Dublin, while adding, “It’s where I sort of learned to write songs.” Sheeran said his billion-stream songs all share a “common thread” of being about “heart and true experience and love and heartbreak.” (Billboard)
