KAMLOOPS — Kamloops Storm forward Nicklas Wytrychowski has been named the KIJHL’s rookie for the week for the week ending Jan. 18.

The 18-year-old Aidrie, Alta. native tallied five points (two goals and three assists) in a pair of Storm victories.

Wytrychowski had a goal and two assists as the Storm beat 100 Mile House Wranglers 6-3 last Friday (Jan. 16). He added a goal and an assist the following night as the Storm beat the Columbia Valley Rockies 5-4 in overtime.

“He used his size and deceptive speed well,” Storm head coach Andrew Fisher said of Wytrychowski in a statement. “He protected the puck, took it to the net and got pucks to the net when he had traffic.”

Wytrychowski’s 34 points (14 goals and 20 assists) in 32 games has him ranked eighth among all KIJHL rookies this season. He is fifth in the Storm’s scoring race behind Kamloopsians Luca D’Amore (49), Noah Paulsen (49) and Teghan Mullin (48) with St. Albert, Alta.’s Hayden Selin (39) in fourth place.

The 25-7-1-1 Storm are tied for the KIJHL’s lead with 52 points from 34 games. The 25-5-0-2 Revelstoke Grizzlies also have 52 points but they lead the league with a superior win percentage as they’ve played two fewer games.

The Storm host the Wranglers at McArthur Island at 7:00 p.m. this Friday (Jan. 23) night. They also host the Sicamous Eagles at 7:00 p.m. on Saturday night.
