RCMP looking for suspect after theft, assault at Tk’emlups grocery store

TK’EMLUPS — Tkemlúps Rural RCMP are asking for help in identifying a suspect who assaulted a security guard after a theft at a grocery store earlier this month

Police say a suspect who stole nearly $365 worth of meat and cheese was being chased by a security guard after they escaped out of the backdoor of a grocery store on the 300-block of Highway 5 around 3:05 p.m. Sunday, Jan. 4.

While police didn’t identify the store in a news release Thursday (Jan. 22), the address is the location of Sweláps Market.

Surveillance video captured a picture of the suspect – a man who was wearing a black hat, black jacket and black pants.

“The suspect was chased by the security guard to a nearby residential area where she was pushed and subsequently received minor injuries from the altercation,” RCMP spokesperson Cpl. Dana Napier said.
