Teenage midfielder Alessandro Biello looks forward to fresh start with FC Supra

“This is the right moment for Alessandro and the right fit for the club,” Supra president and co-founder Rocco Placentino said in a statement. “He has strong roots in the game, understands the demands of the professional level and is ready to step into this environment and contribute right away.”

Mauro Biello is looking forward to seeing his son in action with the Supra.

“As a dad, you’re always proud and happy for your kids,” he said. “And for Alessandro, him signing here, I think, was the best option for him for the next phase of his career.”

Alessandro Biello is no stranger to the CPL, having spent last season on loan with the Halifax Wanderers. But he grew up in the CF Montreal system, starting with the pre-academy at age eight in 2014. He joined the academy in 2019 with the U-15 team and rose through the ranks before signing as a homegrown player in March 2024.

Biello made his first-team debut for Montreal in May 2024 in Canadian Championship play and his Major League Soccer debut the following week. In all he made four first-team appearances before going out on loan in February 2025.

He saw action in 21 games (351 minutes playing time) with Halifax, but only three starts.

“I didn’t get the minutes that I may have been hoping for but sometimes as a young player things don’t turn out the way that you want to,” he said. “But for me, it was a great experience in terms of being able to learn, when things don’t go your way, how you’re supposed to react.

“At first it was frustrating. But I managed to realize in the end that I could only control myself, in the way I work, the way I train, and every opportunity that I’m given, just to try to make the most out of it.”

Montreal declined Biello’s 2026 contract option but offered him an invitation to training camp. But Biello says he was won over by the opportunity a fresh start with the Supra.

“It’s a team that’s just starting up and it’s a new era in Quebec soccer, something that I’m really excited to get started with. And it’s an opportunity to represent Quebec because we’ll all going to be local guys and we all have something to relate to and we’ll all going to be pushing for the same objectives.”

Biello remains grateful for “11 unforgettable years” with Montreal.

“I came in as a little kid who dreamed of playing in their hometown, at Stade Saputo in front of all the fans. And for me, the club gave me everything. I wouldn’t be anything without CF Montreal and the Montreal Impact … So many amazing memories, as a fan in the stands, as a player.

“Football’s a business. And in the end it’s unfortunate. But some things don’t turn out the way that you’d like to. Even though maybe I felt like I could have helped the team and bring certain things to the table … You’ve just got to be able to adapt and move on.”

At the international level, Biello represented Canada at the CONCACAF U-17 Championship and FIFA U-17 World Cup in Indonesia, both in 2023, and CONCACAF U-20 Championship in 2024. Biello was called into a Toronto camp by Canada coach Jesse Marsch In November 2024.

Biello says his father has a “great balance” between being a dad and coach.

“He’s always there for me whenever I need advice. It’s a bonus to have my dad and my uncle who have been though so many experiences.”

He can also call on uncle Nick DeSantis, a former Impact player and Canadian international who is an executive adviser to the Supra.

Mauro Biello, whose eldest son Gabriele is attending Concordia’s John Molson School of Business, says the two spent a lot of time together as Alessandro grew up.

“He was always involved in the game in some way, whether it was him watching me or coming to training. And just having the passion for it,” he said. “When we talk, it’s a lot of football talk but at the same time I never wanted to put any extra pressure on him. As long as he continued to enjoy what he was doing.”
