Matt Damon Says Netflix Wants Movies To Repeat The Plot Due To Phone-Distracted Viewers

Matt Damon revealed on The Joe Rogan Experience that Netflix asks filmmakers to repeat plot points multiple times because so many viewers watch on phones. Damon and Ben Affleck appeared on the podcast together to promote their Netflix film The Rip. Damon also explained that Netflix wants early action sequences, since home viewers show “very different level of attention” than theater audiences. “Can we get a big one in the first five minutes? We want people to stay. And it wouldn’t be terrible if you reiterated the plot three or four times in the dialogue because people are on their phones while they’re watching,” Damon said, describing Netflix’s approach. Affleck countered by citing the Adolescence series as proof that quality content doesn’t need such tactics. “But then you look at ‘Adolescence,’ and it didn’t do any of that sh-t. And it’s fu-king great,” Affleck said.
