KAMLOOPS — Logan Edmonstone’s 26 save shutout led the Kamloops Blazers to a 3-0 win over the Wenatchee Wild at Sandman Centre Saturday (Jan. 17) night.

The Blazers netminder was perfect as both he and the Blazers rebounded to make it three of four points this weekend, following Friday’s overtime loss to the Prince George Cougars.

Edmonstone recorded his third shutout of the season, though he almost lost it on the final play as the Wild rang iron with about two seconds on the clock.

“It was a great win and the boys played hard,” Edmonstone said post-game. “Good bounce back from last night, we really focused on our d-zone. That was a big topic in the game. Yeah, three points is better than no points.”

Owen Cooper, Josh Evaschesen, and Ty Bonkowski scored for the 19-14-5-4 Blazers, who sit sixth in the Western Conference with 47 points from 42 games.

The Blazers opened the scoring when Cooper redirected a Ryan Michael shot past Cal Conway inside five minutes of the opening period. That goal eventually stood as the game winner as the Edmonstone came up with some key saves all night to keep the Wild off the scoresheet.

Fast forward to the third period as Evaschesen put away his 20th goal of the season just past the four minute mark before Ty Bonkowski sealed the win with an empty netter with over five minutes left to play.

Conway finished with 25 saves on 27 shots in the Wenatchee net, as the Wild remain in last place in the Western Conference with a 17-24-1-1 record.

The Blazers are on the road next weekend as they’re scheduled to play games in Wenatchee, Spokane, and Tri City, Jan. 23 to 25. Their next home game is on Wednesday (Jan. 28) against the Red Deer Rebels.
