Vehicle stuck in snow has KSAR urging caution when driving down forest service roads

KAMLOOPS — Kamloops Search and Rescue (KSAR) is reminding drivers who rely on navigation apps to use caution when deciding to continue down forest service roads.

In a post to social media, KSAR says its crewmembers were tasked by the RCMP just after 5:00 p.m. Monday to help a driver who was reportedly stuck in snow on Martin Prairie Road near Pritchard.

However, upon arrival, KSAR says the driver was not found at the coordinates provided. RCMP then told crews that they were informed the driver was freed from the snow after receiving help from a resident nearby, according to KSAR.

“Martin Prairie Road was the reported location, and it is believed the motorist may have been attempting to travel toward Kelowna and missed the usual turnoff,” KSAR states. “In many cases, it is safer to turn around and return to a missed turn rather than continue, particularly if you are expecting to be travelling on a highway rather than a dirt road.”
