KAMLOOPS — Former Thompson Rivers University (TRU) volleyball athlete Iuliia Pakhomenko is heading to the Canada West Hall of Fame as part of the Class of 2025-26.

Pakhomenko played three seasons at TRU between 2014 and 2017, and was named a Canada West First Team All-Star in each of those seasons. She was the Canada West Player of the Year in 2015-16 and is also the only WolfPack athlete to win a Canada West Athlete of the Year award.

An outside hitter on the court, she also earned U SPORTS All-Canadian honours (First Team in 2015-16 and 2016-17 and Second Team in 2014-15) while at TRU and was named the U SPORTS womens volleyball Player of the Year in 2015-16.

She was also a finalist for the Lois Mitchell and Doug Mitchell award as U SPORTS Athlete of the Year in 2015-16, but lost out to future Canadian Olympian Kylie Masse.

The native of Donetsk in Ukraine joined a WolfPack team that hadn’t won a match in two seasons and led them to back-to-back sixth-place conference finishes and a pair of postseason berths.

Her name can be found throughout the Canada West record books as Pakhomenko sits first in career history with 4.60 kills-per-set, second in single season history with 425 kills, second in single season history with 496.5 points, third in career history with .502 aces-per-set, and holds seven of the top ten highest kill matches in Canada West history.

Pakhomenko was enshrined into the WolfPack Hall of Fame in 2022, and is into her first season as an assistant coach on the women’s volleyball team.

She is the third member of the WolfPack to be inducted into the Canada West Hall of Fame, joining longtime TRU Athletic Director Ken Olynyk and men’s volleyball standout Gord Perrin.
