LYTTON, B.C. — (UPDATE 5:30 p.m.): Highway 12 between Lillooet and Lytton will remain closed overnight due to a rock slide.

In an update around 5:15 p.m., DriveBC said a geotechnical investigation is underway after an unknown amount of rocks slide down the mountain roughly 5km north of Fountain Valley Road, near Lillooet.

The rock slide was reported to the Ministry of Transportation and Transit just after 1:00 p.m. Saturday (Jan. 10), though its not clear what caused the incident.

People looking to travel between Lillooet and Lytton will have to detour through Cache Creek via highways 1 and 99, a journey which takes a little over two hours to complete instead of the approximately 45 minutes it takes via Highway 12.
