Olivia Rodrigo is celebrating the fifth anniversary of “Drivers License” with a cover version by Talking Heads frontman David Byrne and a series of exclusive vinyl releases. The 2021 debut single made Rodrigo the youngest artist to debut atop the Billboard Hot 100 at age 17, with the song going on to win a Grammy for Best Pop Solo Performance. Rodrigo called Byrne “one of my all-time heroes,” while revealing “I actually cried when I heard his version of this song” in an Instagram post on Thursday (Jan. 8). Byrne’s cover launches a series of special renditions tied to the fifth anniversary of the release of Rodrigo’s debut album, Sour. A limited-edition seven-inch vinyl features Byrne’s cover and the duo’s collaboration on the Talking Heads’ classic “Burning Down the House” from Rodrigo’s 2025 Governors Ball performance. Rodrigo reflected on “Drivers License” impact by admitting, “This song has totally changed my life in ways I still can’t totally wrap my head around.” (Rolling Stone)
