UPDATE: Minor injuries in early-morning, semi-on-semi crash near Savona

KAMLOOPS — UPDATE (2:30 p.m.): Tk’emlups Rural RCMP spokesperson Cpl. Dana Napier says the collision in the 8000-block of Trans Canada Highway near Savona involved two semi trucks, blocking both lanes of the highway.

Napier says BC Ambulance attendants treated minor injuries among those involved in the crash.

She notes the driver of the eastbound truck was given a ticket.

UPDATE (9:00 a.m.): DriveBC says the Trans Canada Highway between Savona and Tobiano reopened in both directions.

UPDATE (8:00 a.m.): The Trans Canada Highway between Savona and Tobiano is open to eastbound traffic.

However, DriveBC says the stretch of Highway 1 is still closed for westbound traffic. Crews and equipment are in place.

Another update is due at 9:00 a.m.

EARLIER: A stretch of the Trans Canada Highway west of Kamloops is closed for the early part of the Wednesday (Jan. 7) morning commute. 

DriveBC first reported of a multi-vehicle incident on Highway 1 between Savona and Tobiano at around 1:20 a.m. Wednesday. The roadway is closed in both directions between Savona Access Road and Holloway Drive. 

Another update is due at 8:00 a.m. 

A detour is available via Highway 5 and Highway 24.
