CMHA Kamloops activating extreme weather response beds for a brief period
KAMLOOPS — The Canadian Mental Health Association (CMHA) has activated its extreme weather response beds in Kamloops for a brief period.
An extreme weather alert (EWA) was issued by the City of Kamloops late Tuesday (Jan. 6) afternoon. Under the EWA, the CMHA will provide extra beds at its Emerald Centre (271 Victoria St. W.), Rosethorn House (259 Victoria St. W.) and Merit Place (725 Notre Dame Dr.) shelters.
During the EWA, the CMHA’s shelters provide the temporary spaces from 7:00 p.m. to 8:00 a.m.
Under provincial legislation, an EWA can be issued when the temperature is forecast to drop to -5 C or colder including wind chill or five centimetres of snow or more is predicted to fall.
