Power outage near Sicamous caused by truck colliding into pole; driver sent to hospital
SICAMOUS, B.C. — A driver was sent to hospital with non-life-threatening injuries after a collision that knocked out power for hundreds of residents in the Sicamous area.
Sicamous RCMP say officers responded to the single-vehicle collision on Highway 97A near Marvyn Road at around 8:30 p.m. Sunday (Jan. 4) where a Ford F350 had lost control while traveling south.
In a news release issued Monday (Jan. 5), RCMP say the truck struck a power pole and rolled onto its roof in the ditch. Police say first responders removed the driver from the truck once BC Hydro determined the scene was safe from the downed power lines.
BC Hydro reported that power was knocked out for 1,788 customers at around 8:14 p.m. Sunday. Power was restored at 4:00 a.m. Monday.
