Man found dead in Kamloops’ West End; police suspect homicide

KAMLOOPS — RCMP say a suspicious death in the Kamloops West End could be the city’s first homicide of 2026.

In a news release, detachment spokesperson Cpl. Dana Napier says Mounties were called to a home on Dalgleish Drive Monday (Jan. 5) to check on the well-being of a man.

Once inside, officers found the body of Muhammad ‘Ash’ Zafar.

Napier says based on the evidence, investigators are treating Zafar’s death as a homicide. They’re now trying to track Zafar’s movements leading up to his passing.

“We are asking anyone who had recent contact with Mr. Zafar, or who may have information about his social network, activities, or associates, to reach out to investigators,” said Staff Sgt. Kevin McIntyre of the Kamloops RCMP Serious Crime Unit. “Even small details can assist us in understanding the events leading up to this incident.”

Investigators want to touch base with anyone who saw or spoke with Zafar between January 2 and January 5, anyone who noticed unusual activity in and around Dalgleish Drive, or anyone from Zafar’s “social or professional circles” who has yet to speak with police and may have relevant information.

Napier notes the circumstances surrounding Zafar’s death appear to be isolated, meaning there is no risk to the greater public.
