KAMLOOPS — (UPDATE 12:40 p.m.): Kamloops RCMP say three people were arrested Sunday (Jan. 4) night after a woman was allegedly being held against her will in her own vehicle along the Trans-Canada Highway in Valleyview.

In an update, RCMP say the noticeable police presence in the 2300-block of the East Trans Canada Highway near the Rivershore Ram dealership began after the woman was able to notify police that she was being held in what appears to be a white camper van by three suspects that also had a gun.

According to police, the woman was able to ask for help around 7:00 p.m. last night after she was allowed to walk to a nearby gas station after the vehicle ran out of gas.

“A high-risk vehicle stop was initiated by Kamloops RCMP frontline police, who were able to safely separate the woman from the three alleged suspects in the van,” Kamloops RCMP spokesperson Cpl. Dana Napier said.

“Two men and a woman were arrested on scene and a BB Gun was located in the van.”

While the incident is still being investigated, Napier said charges are expected.

Video posted to social media Sunday night showed nearly a dozen police vehicles that had surrounded a van.

“Quite often, when reports come in, they’re at a far higher level than when we actually get there and start investigating,” Kamloops RCMP S/Sgt. Chris Kienzle told CFJC Today early Monday (Jan. 5) morning.

“This is one of those cases where once we were on scene and actually found the heads or tails of what was going on… the risk was greatly reduced once we actually got to the bottom of it.”

People who may have information about this incident are being asked to call the Kamloops RCMP at 250-828-3000 and reference file 2026-346.
