LANGLEY, B.C. — Asher Gingras scored his first career WHL goal but the Kamloops Blazers were beaten 7-3 by the Vancouver Giants in Langley Sunday (Dec. 28) evening.

Gingras, the 16-year-old forward who was drafted by the Blazers in the first round of the 2024 WHL Prospects Draft, scored a consolation goal at 18:46 of the final period as the Blazers played their final road game of 2025.

JP Hurlbert and Owen Cooper got the other goals for the 15-13-3-4 Blazers, who drop to seventh in the WHL’s Western Conference.

The 16-19-1-1 Giants were led by Dallas Stars prospect Cameron Schmidt’s four point night – which included a hat trick – while goaltender Burke Hood turned aside 36 of 39 shots to pick up the win. Colton Gerrior, Aaron Obobaifo, Jakob Oreskovic and Tyus Sparks also scored for the Giants.

Vancouver led 2-1 after the first period as Schmidt, Hurlbert and Gerrior all found the back of the net. The Giants were up 5-1 after the second at the Langley Events Centre following a pair of goals by Schmidt and one by Obobaifo.

While Cooper’s goal at 2:13 of the third period cut the Giants lead to three, the home team was back up by five as both Oreskovic and Sparks scored four minutes after Cooper did.

Blazers netminder Logan Edmonstone stopped 29 of 36 shots to pick up the loss.

The Blazers will look to bounce back on home ice Tuesday (Dec. 30) when they host the Prince George Cougars in their final home game of 2025.

Puck drop from the Sandman Centre is scheduled for 7 p.m., and the first 1,500 fans through the doors will be given a Blazers 2026 calendar.
