KAMLOOPS — The City of Kamloops is gearing up to host the 2026 BC 55+ BC Games, which will be held in early September.

Organizers expect thousands of people to flock to the Tournament Capital for the games, which will feature 27 sports and activities at facilities across Kamloops between Sept. 8 to 12, 2026. There will also be three new demonstration sports this year – a 5 km trail run, cornhole and gravel bike racing.

“Kamloops, Canada’s Tournament Capital, is extremely proud to host the upcoming 55+ BC Games, and are ready to welcome you to perform and play in our community,” Ron McColl, the President of the Kamloops 2026 55+ BC Games Host Society said in a statement.

Our Director of Sport, with the support of our Board of Directors, has thoughtfully curated a selection of events showcasing facilities that not only allow for good play, but also make our community shine.”

Kamloops has hosted the 55+ BC Games twice before in 1996 and 2013. The 2025 edition was held in Nanaimo and it featured over 2,500 participants, according to organizers.

“The 55+ BC Games are an important part of the BC sport system and the largest annual multi-sport gathering event in the province,” a statement from the BC Games Host Society said. “The Games offer the opportunity to celebrate sport and active living with other participants from across the province and experience the hospitality of the host city.”

According to organizers, over 1,200 volunteers are needed to help stage the games. Those interested in volunteering can reach out online.

Registration for participants is scheduled to begin on March 16, 2026.

The BC Games Host Society also noted the 55+ BC Games bring an average economic impact of over $6 million to the host community.

“Kamloops is known for their outstanding volunteers, excellent facilities and incredible experience hosting major sporting events as well as various BC and Canada Games,” Diane Murphy, the President of the BC Seniors Games Society (BCSGS) added.

“The BCSGS is grateful for the enthusiasm of the Kamloops Host Society, as well as all of the volunteers, sponsors, and supporters within the local community and surrounding areas as they work together to focus on making the 55+ BC Games a tremendous experience for everyone.”

Kamloops has also hosted the Canada 55+ Games in 2022, the Canada Summer Games in 1993, the BC Summer Games in 2006, and the BC Winter Games in 1979 and in 2018.

The city has also been named as the host for the 2028 BC Winter Games, which will run March 2 to 5 that year.
