COLORADO SPRINGS, COL. — Former Kamloops Blazers defenceman Mats Lindgren will play NCAA hockey at Colorado College.

The Division 1 Tigers announced the signing of the 21-year-old Lindgren Saturday (Dec. 27). The six-foot tall, left-shooting Lindgren will join the Colorado-based team effective immediately.

Lindgren spent the majority of the 2024-25 season with the Wheeling Nailers in the ECHL, where he tallied seven goals and 21 points in 56 games. He was also held scoreless in seven games for the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins in the American Hockey League.

Prior to turning pro, Lindgren spent five seasons with the Blazers and the Red Deer Rebels, where he put up 24 goals and 129 points in 220 WHL games. He had six goals and 54 points in 94 games over three seasons in Kamloops and was picked by the Buffalo Sabres in the fourth round of the 2022 NHL draft.

In August 2022, Lindgren was traded to Red Deer for defenceman Kyle Masters and a conditional first draft round pick in the 2025 WHL Prospects Draft. As the Rebels were part of the 2025 Prospects Draft lottery, the Blazers will get the Rebels first round pick in 2026.

While Lindgren signed a one-year deal with the AHL’s Bakersfield Condors in August, he never played for the Edmonton Oilers AHL affiliate.

“We are excited to add Mats to our program,” Colorado College head coach Kris Mayotte said in a statement. “We are adding a very good player and teammate. He is a strong skater with a history of offensive production.”

“I know Mats is eager to get started and we are ready to get him up to speed as quickly as possible.”

Prior to signing with the Blazers, Lindgren, the son of former NHL forward Mats Lindgren, had committed to playing NCAA hockey at the University of Michigan.

Lindgren could make his NCAA debut next weekend as the Tigers return to action against Augustana University on Jan. 2 and 3, in Sioux Falls, South Dakota.
