Emergency department in 100 Mile House closed for fifth time in December

100 MILE HOUSE, B.C. — (UPDATE 6:00 p.m.): What was supposed to be a 13 hour closure of the emergency department in 100 Mile House has been extended by another 12 hours.

Interior Health says the ER at the 100 Mile House District General Hospital will now be closed until 8:00 a.m. Sunday (Dec. 28) morning.

The now 25 hour long closure began at 7:00 a.m. Saturday, and Interior Health notified people about it roughly an hour later.

The health authority then notified people about the overnight extension just before 6:00 p.m. Saturday.

This is the fifth ER closure in 100 Mile House this month, and 28th of the year. People are being told to access emergency care at Cariboo Memorial Hospital in Williams Lake about an hour’s drive away.

As has been the case during past emergency room closures, Interior Health said people should call 9-1-1 if they need emergency care, or HealthLink BC at 8-1-1 if they aren’t sure if they need to head to the emergency room.
