AND SO THIS IS CHRISTMAS. The white blanket covering the ground this morning belies the fire burning just under the surface.
The brilliance of John Lennon ‘s words shout out to us event hough he wrote the song half a century ago. The words are deceptive. You have to “get” where Lennon is going. And most don’t. I think Lennon is telling us to do a better job. “And so this is Christmas. And what have you done? “
Lennon suggests there is only one answer. We’ve done nothing. The ongoing bloodshed shows us we have yet to learn much about integrity, caring and compassion. Donald Trump has shown us the sad side of life all by himself.
I daresay the words Lennon would use today would be a far cry from those he used back in 1971. The official title of the song is Happy Christmas (War is Over). Sad that it is just wishful thinking. Maybe next year.
