Kamloops’ Joe Hicketts to play for Canada at 2025 Spengler Cup

KAMLOOPS — Joe Hicketts will play for Team Canada for the first time in a decade.

The Kamloops native is one of 25 players who will don the Maple Leaf at the 2025 Spengler Cup in Davos, Switzerland.

Hicketts is under contract with the NHL’s Los Angeles Kings and is playing his third season for the Kings’ American Hockey League affiliate, the Ontario Reign, where he serves as team captain.

The 29-year-old left shot defenceman won gold with Canada at the 2015 World Juniors and at the 2013 Ivan Hlinka Memorial Tournament. He also won bronze at the U18 World Championships in 2014.

Hicketts last played for Canada at the 2016 World Juniors, and he turned pro in 2016 after four seasons with the WHL’s Victoria Royals.

Team Canada opens the 2025 Spengler Cup on Boxing Day versus the US Collegiate Selects. They’ll also face hosts HC Davos in the round-robin stage.

Canada and Davos have each won 16 Spengler Cup titles, with Canada’s last tournament win coming in 2019.
