KAMLOOPS — This year’s Christmas Cheer Donation Station is only open for two more days, and the BC Interior Community Foundation is hoping for a final fundraising push to reach its goal of $36,000.

For the past month, the lobby of the Thompson Nicola Regional District building in downtown Kamloops has been taken over by the festive setup. Featuring photo backdrops, local art, baked goods, face painting, tarot card reading and more.

Donations from the campaign will be distributed amongst the Y Women’s Emergency Shelter, Kamloops Immigrant Services and the Chris Rose Therapy Centre for Autism.

Wenda Noonan, the executive director of the BC Interior Community Foundation, says last year the idea of doing photos for people became quite popular, and they organization has brought it back for this year’s display.

“Right now, the fun part is setting up the photos. People who hadn’t even really thought of giving to Cheer will come in for a photo and do a little donation, so it really works reciprocally.”

Prior to the final collection day on Friday (Dec. 19), the BC Interior Community Foundation says Thursday evening will feature a new event, ‘Cheer After Dark’.

“We have LooPs, a BC acoustic pop duo that’s right here from Kamloops coming in to play live. We’ll have some photos being taken, Yvonne Reddick’s artwork is here, we’ve got Kamloops Interior Women’s Resource with a bake sale and from 5:00 to 7:30, we’ll be giving away some baking and some hot chocolate from Amplified.”

The Christmas Cheer Donation Station is open Thursday evening until 7:30 p.m. and the final day, Friday, runs from 9:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.
