Chase Heat forward Shiva Singh nets second KIJHL rookie of the week award

CHASE, B.C. — Chase Heat forward Shiva Singh‘s five-point night has earned him his second rookie of the week award this season.

The 18-year-old Surrey native was recognized by the Kootenay International Junior Hockey League (KIJHL) for the week ending Dec. 14. He was also named rookie of the week in late September.

Singh had two goals and five points as the Heat beat the Golden Rockets 9-8 in overtime on Saturday (Dec. 13).

“I was on top of my game – getting pucks out, burying my chances, and making good plays happen,” Singh said, in a statement via the KIJHL. “I was getting my body on the puck, winning corner battles and getting to the net. I beat their defencemen to pucks.”

Singh leads all Heat skaters with 21 points (seven goals and 14 assists) in 20 games. He’s also 15th among all KIJHL rookies.

The 6-19-0-0 Heat are in last place in the overall KIJHL standings with 12 points from 25 games.

They’re set to play two games this month – against home against the Merritt Centennials at the Art Holding Memorial Arena this Friday (Dec. 19) and on the road in 100 Mile House on Saturday.
