Kamloops, Lytton, Clinton among B.C. communities setting new temperature records
LYTTON, B.C. — The atmospheric weather system that is bringing heavy rain to B.C.’s south coast has triggered a new wave of high-temperature records across the province.
According to preliminary numbers from Environment Canada, nine communities either broke or tied temperature records for Dec. 14, including Lytton, which reached 15.2 C. That is almost two degrees warmer than the previous record of 13.3 C set in 1980, with records going back to 1921.
Lytton was the Canadian hot spot on Sunday, though temperature records were also broken in communities like Cache Creek (14.5 C), Clinton (8.1 C) and Princeton (8.6 C).
Kamloops has also likely set a new record for Dec. 15, as Environment Canada notes the mercury reached a Canadian-high 18.6 C at Kamloops Airport, almost three degrees above the anticipated daytime high of 15 C.
