KAMLOOPS — This evening’s (Dec. 12) KIJHL game between the Kamloops Storm and the Golden Rockets has been postponed to Sunday after a fatal two-semi crash forced a lengthy closure of the Trans-Canada Highway.

RCMP say the driver of one of the semis was killed in the head-on crash which happened around 9:20 a.m. near the Illecillewaet River Bridge in Glacier National Park. The other driver was taken to hospital in a serious condition.

“Our condolences go out to the family and friends of the deceased individual,” RCMP spokesperson Cpl. Brett Urano said.

“We would like to thank all the first responders to attended and provided care to those involved in the incident. We ask that anyone who has dash cam footage or witnessed the incident to speak to an investigator if they have not already done so.”

Urano says the Revelstoke RCMP Detachment is working with the BC Highway Patrol and the RCMP Collision Analysis and Reconstruction Service to try and determine what caused the crash.

The highway closure is expected to be a lengthy one, as the next update is only expected to come at 9:30 p.m. this evening.

The 19-4-1-1 Storm and 13-8-1 Rockets will face off in a 7:00 p.m. puck drop on Sunday in the final KIJHL game at McArthur Island this year.

The Rockets are due to play the 5-17 Chase Heat in a 7:00 p.m. puck drop at the Art Holding Memorial Arena Saturday (Dec. 13) evening.
