KAMLOOPS — The Kamloops-Thompson School District (SD73) has found its new Secretary-Treasurer following what it said was a comprehensive search.

Kim Morris is moving to SD73 from the Peace River South School District (SD59) in Dawson Creek, where she is currently Secretary-Treasurer. She has also worked in similar roles at school districts in Victoria, New Westminster, Nelson, Trail, and Prince Rupert.

“With her extensive executive and financial leadership experience in school districts across B.C., we know Kim will provide strong financial leadership and operational oversight to support our district’s vision and strategic goals,” SD73 Board Chair Heather Grieve said.

In a statement, SD73 said Morris has led complex budget development processes, multi-year technology action plans, long range facilities planning, asset management, capital projects, and strategic operational planning with “credibility, confidence, and compassion.”

“I’m very excited and deeply appreciative of the opportunity to join the team in the Kamloops-Thompson School District,” Morris – who is set to begin in her new role in March – added.

“Making a positive impact on student success is the most important work we do. I hope to contribute fully through my experiences in the province while learning alongside the Board of Education, First Nations, staff, partners, and community to fulfil the goals of the District Strategic Plan with transparency, sustainability, and commitment.”

Morris will join newly appointed Superintendent Mike St. John, who is set to begin in his role at SD73 in February. She will be replacing Trina Cassidy, who was let go in October last year after an accounting error led to a $2.2-million shortfall in the SD73 budget.

That error – and other budgetary shortfalls – led to several other job cuts at SD73.

Harold Cull has been serving as interim SD73 Secretary-Treasurer since January.
