KAMLOOPS — Teghan Mullin scored the teddy bear goal Saturday (Dec. 6) night to help his hometown Kamloops Storm get back to winning ways in the KIJHL.

The Storm doubled up the Kelowna Chiefs 4-2 in a battle of the league’s top two teams at McArthur Island to extend their point streak to 12 games. Kamloops went 10-0 in November but lost to 100 Mile House in a shootout last Tuesday.

Goals from Mullin and Noah Paulsen – both 18-year-olds from Kamloops – had the Storm up 2-0 after one period Saturday.

Owen Miller cut the Storm’s lead to one midway through the second before Luca D’Amore – another 18-year-old from Kamloops – struck twice to make it 4-1 for the home side.

Brenden Stirbu added a late third period consolation goal for the Chiefs, who fall to 18-4-1. They’re second in the league with 37 points from 23 games and lead the Bill Ohlhausen Division.

The Storm improved to 19-4-1-1, good for 40 points from 25 games. The Doug Birks Division leaders also sit atop the overall KIJHL standings.

Mullin and Paulsen added two assists each to go with their goals. Nicklas Wytrychowski also chipped in with two assists for Kamloops.

At the other end of the ice, Brenner Fyfe was outstanding for the Storm as he made 48 saves on 50 shots to pick up his 14th win of the season. Kelowna’s Michael Makowsky turned aside 18 of 22 shots in a losing effort.

The Storm are scheduled to play three more games this month – at home to Golden next Friday, Dec. 12, and then in Chase on Tuesday, Dec. 16 and in Revelstoke on Dec. 31.
