SALMON ARM, B.C. — Snow is expected to bombard eastern sections of the Shuswap over the next 24 hours.

Environment Canada issued a snowfall warning for the Shuswap region and the Trans Canada Highway from Sicamous to Revelstoke.

From midday Friday (Dec. 5) to Saturday (Dec. 6) morning, the weather agency is forecasting up to 20 centimetres of snowfall for Malakwa and Sicamous and the surrounding areas, while Revelstoke is expected to receive 10 to 15 centimetres.

The snowfall warning is due to a frontal system combined with colder temperatures.

“Another band of moisture will bring a period of snow Saturday morning, with snow becoming mixed with rain by Saturday afternoon,” Environment Canada states.

Residents are asked to prepare for quickly changing and deteriorating travel conditions and allow extra time for travel. Environment Canada warns that weather in the mountains can change suddenly resulting in hazardous driving conditions.

As of Friday morning, Environment Canada is forecasting wet snow to change to periods of rain midday in Salmon Arm. While periods of rain are expected to end in Salmon Arm Friday night, the weather agency is expecting them to resume Saturday morning.
