Eight people died due to toxic drugs in Kamloops during October: province

KAMLOOPS — The toxic drug crisis took eight more lives in Kamloops during the month of October.

New figures distributed by the BC Coroners Service show the city has recorded 50 deaths related to drug toxicity to the end of October, up from 42 at the end of September.

The province notes 150 deaths due to illicit drugs across B.C. in October, bringing the year-to-date total to 1,538.

While 70 per cent of the recorded deaths so far this year have been among people aged 30 to 59, there has been an increase in younger people dying. The service notes 21 deaths to the end of October, up from 17 during the same time period in 2024.
