Blazers’ Hurlbert named WHL Rookie of the Month for November

KAMLOOPS — Add another award to the Texas Tornado’s trophy case.

J.P. Hurlbert earned WHL Rookie of the Month honours for the month of November. The 17-year-old forward was also named Player of the Month for September/October to start the 2025-26 season.

Hurlbert is also a two-time winner of the WHL Player of the Week award and a two-time winner of the WHL Rookie of the Week award.

Hurlbert scored eight goals and 20 points in 12 games for the Blazers in November. Team success followed as the Blazers went 7-3-1-1 in November to sit fourth in the WHL’s Western Conference with a 13-10-2-2 record, good for 30 points in 27 games.

A native of Allen, Texas, Hurlbert recorded seven multi-point games in November and was only held off the scoresheet twice. He leads all Canadian Hockey League players in scoring with 48 points in 27 games. He also leads all WHL skaters in goals scored with 20.

Hurlbert was given an ‘A’ grade on the National Hockey League’s Central Scouting preliminary players to watch list as a potential first-round pick in the 2026 NHL Entry Draft.

The Blazers host the Penticton Vees on Friday (Dec. 5) for Teddy Bear Toss night at Sandman Centre. Puck drop is at 7:00 p.m.
