SUN PEAKS, B.C. — An après-ski music festival that has called Big White Ski Resort home for the last four years is moving to Sun Peaks Resort in 2026.

AltiTunes will take over the Sun Peaks Centre Stage on April 3 and 4 next year, and organizers are promising two days of “high-energy live musical performances and unforgettable après-ski vibes.”

Mitch Carefoot with Thick as Thieves Entertainment says while the last four years at Big White sold out – with over 11,000 people in attendance in 2024 – Sun Peaks provides his team an opportunity to do what they’ve always dreamed of.

“It was a different layout at Big White at the bottom of a gondola. It was a great experience but we’re always looking for ways to elevate it,” Carefoot told CFJC. “Working with Tourism Sun Peaks gave us the opportunity for a true village takeover with the venue being right in the village area benefitting all the local restaurants and accommodations.”

“It just provides a more seamless experience where everything is easily accessible.”

Carefoot added his team – which organizes events like Denim on the Diamond in Kelowna has been receiving “countless messages” from past festival attendees and people in the Kamloops and Sun Peaks area who are eager for an end of ski season event.

“AltiTunes is truly is an end of season celebration where we get locals who come out to mark the end of the season,” Carefoot added. “Seasonal workers also gather to share one last moment before they go their separate ways and these memories can last a lifetime.”

“It’s about coming together with friends and family. We believe its a worldly experience.”

In a statement, Naomi Kerchinsky, the Executive Director of Tourism Sun Peaks, said they’re excited to welcome AltiTunes to Sun Peaks. It’s set to be held on what’s currently scheduled to be final weekend of operations of the 2025-26 ski season.

“Having the festival here is a great way to show what our mountain community is all about, with fun, memorable experiences that bring people together,” she said.

AltiTunes began in 2022 with Hamilton-based band The Arkells as the headliner. Carefoot told CFJC it was a mutual parting of ways with Big White though he said he feels for some of the businesses at the Kelowna-area ski resort.

“From the business standpoint, we know its going hurt them a bit because this event is held on a weekend that’s typically a little bit quieter,” Carefoot said. “We would usually sell out the resort so all the restaurant and hotels are booked out.”

“It’s been four great years at Big White and we hope they’ve appreciated of what we invested and the risk we assumed to host the event.”

Pre-sale ticket sales for AltiTunes begin this Wednesday (Dec. 3) though Carefoot says people can sign up online for early access. He also noted the lineup of artists will be announced in the coming weeks.

“We have a long term vision of what this could become and you see a lot of the stuff in Europe and how they curate their après-ski events,” Carefoot said.

“Year one is a starting ground and then years two and three and onwards is about adding other components to it to bring people from all across Western Canada to come up to Sun Peaks and Kamloops.”
