ABBOTSFORD — The TRU WolfPack women’s basketball team is enjoying a bit of a renaissance for the first time in five years as they’ve picked up their fourth win of this Canada West season.

The WolfPack scored 22 unanswered points in the third quarter to beat the University of the Fraser Valley 60-50 Saturday (Nov. 29) night in Abbotsford, their first win over the Cascades since 2015.

Olena Vasylenko scored a game-high 15 points and added nine assists and six steals, while Morgan Eichenberger recorded her fourth double-double of the season with 14 points and 18 rebounds to go with five steals.

Kylee Koppes (nine points), Sydney Vollrath and Micah Ramsay (eight each) and Hailey Merrigan (six) rounded out the scoring for TRU, which ended a 24-game losing streak against the Cascades.

Trailing 28-25 at half time, the WolfPack controlled the third quarter as they outscored the Cascades 24-4. They added a few clutch buckets in the fourth quarter en route to the 10-point win at the UFV Athletic Centre.

Both WolfPack and Cascades sit at 4-7 going into the Canada West winter break.

The WolfPack men weren’t able to make it a perfect Saturday for TRU as they lost a nail-biter to the Cascades 72-68, their fourth defeat in a row.

Jayden Stephens led the way for TRU with 22 points and four rebounds, while Dami Farinloye added 10 points along with four assists and four steals.

The WolfPack trailed 39-32 at half time, and while they were able to tie the score at 64-64 in the final quarter, they were unable to match Fraser Valley’s eight points in the final three minutes and lost by four.

TRU is now 7-4 on the season, and in a tie with UFV for third in the Pacific Division.

The WolfPack will play their final game of 2025 this Friday (Dec. 5) when they host the UNBC Timberwolves at the TCC. The women play at 5:30 p.m. followed by the men at 7:30 p.m.
