KAMLOOPS — The City of Kamloops and BC Transit will be holding their annual Stuff the Bus fundraiser in support of the Kamloops Food Bank next weekend.

It will be held on Saturday, Dec. 6, and Sunday, Dec. 7, outside the Save-On Foods at Columbia Square in Sahali. City staff and volunteers will be on location between 10:00 a.m. and 4:00 p.m. on both days.

They’ll be accepting cash donations and non-perishable items with the goal of filling up a transit bus.

“Every contribution – big or small – makes a difference and helps brighten the holidays for those who need it most,” the city said, in a statement. “This community-driven initiative helps ensure local families have access to essential food during the holiday season.”

Since 2018, the city says the holiday campaign has collected more than 12,000 pounds of food and nearly $22,500 in donations. Last year’s fundraiser brought in just under $4,000 in cash and 1,510 lbs. of non-perishable food items.

Organizers say items of greatest need include cereal, tomato sauce, tuna, canned fruit and vegetables, pasta, formula, baby food, rice, peanut butter and beans.

“Through the Stuff the Bus initiative, the City aims to mobilize community support, reduce food insecurity, and strengthen connections among residents,” the city statement added.
